As noted, WWE announced on Raw tonight that the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble match will take place at next month’s PPV. WWE has since issued the following official press release:<\/p>\n

“FIRST-EVER WOMEN\u2019S ROYAL RUMBLE\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0MATCH\u00a0SET FOR JANUARY 28\u00a0<\/p>\n

STAMFORD, Conn., December 18, 2017 \u2013\u00a0For the first time in history, WWE\u2019s female Superstars will perform in a\u00a0Royal Rumble<\/em>\u00a0match\u00a0on Sunday, January 28,\u00a0where\u00a0Superstars will go head-to-head with the winner\u00a0receiving a championship opportunity\u00a0at\u00a0WrestleMania\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a034<\/em>\u00a0this April. This milestone was announced tonight by WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon during\u00a0Monday Night<\/em>\u00a0Raw\u00ae<\/sup><\/em>\u00a0live on USA Network.<\/p>\n

The women\u2019s Royal Rumble marks another milestone in WWE\u2019s women\u2019s evolution, which has placed a spotlight on its female performers, involving them in more prominent storylines, with deeper character development and longer matches.<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/em>The first-ever women\u2019s\u00a0Royal Rumble<\/em>\u00a0match\u00a0<\/em>will mark a significant moment in the evolution of WWE,\u201d said Stephanie McMahon, WWE Chief Brand Officer.\u00a0\u201c<\/em>WWE\u2019s female performers are role models, inspiring and empowering women and girls to be confident and strong. They deserve their own match at\u00a0Royal Rumble<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

At\u00a0WrestleMania 32<\/em>, WWE unveiled a new Women\u2019s Championship title belt and re-branded the Divas Division to become the Women\u2019s Division. Since then, WWE has placed a greater emphasis on its female performers, including recruiting female talent from around the world, as well as the recent signings of the first female recruits from the Middle East and India.<\/p>\n

This year, WWE created the first-ever women\u2019s tournament,\u00a0Mae Young Classic<\/em>, which included 32 of the top female competitors from 16 countries, underscoring the breadth and international diversity of women in sports entertainment. In addition, earlier this month, WWE Superstars Sasha Banks and Alexa Bliss took part in the first-ever women\u2019s match in the Middle East, and\u00a0this summer in partnership with Mattel, WWE unveiled the first-ever Fashion Doll line featuring its female Superstars.”<\/p>\n
