WALLABIES AND NSW Waratahs coach Michael Cheika has been handed a formal warning for approaching a referee during a Super Rugby match, governing body SANZAR said on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Cheika received the warning after SANZAR investigated a complaint about him stemming from the Waratahs\u2019 23-11 win over the Auckland Blues in Sydney last Saturday.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
SANZAR found Waratahs coach Cheika approached South African match referee Jaco Peyper in front of the other match officials to seek clarification on a scrum interpretation during the half-time break.<\/p>\n
It said a \u201cshort and polite exchange\u201d took place in the referee\u2019s room and Peyper responded to Cheika\u2019s request for clarification.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo other issues were discussed,\u201d SANZAR said in a statement.\u00a0\u201dBoth Mr Cheika and Mr Peyper have subsequently acknowledged this exchange should not have taken place and apologised.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is no evidence that the referee was influenced by the exchange in his handling of the match, nor in the circumstances has there been a breach of the SANZAR Code of Conduct and no further action will be taken.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Peyper also received a formal warning.<\/p>\n
SANZAR has written to all referees and coaches reminding them that no discussions should take place between the officials and coaches during a match.<\/p>\n
