UPPER EAST SIDE, NY \u2014 Finally, First Avenue is getting back some respect.<\/p>\n

A new comedy joint will soon reopen in the former home of an iconic club named after legendary founder Rodney Dangerfield, new documents filed with Community Board 8 show.<\/p>\n

Details on the venue’s next act remain scant, but a representative confirmed new owners seek to relaunch a comedy club and more information will be coming soon. <\/p>\n

The new club will feature comedy shows, piano and acoustic jazz performances and \u2014 if all goes well with Community Board 8 \u2014 beer and wine service, according to the comedy rep and city records.<\/p>\n

Dangerfield opened his eponymous club on First Avenue near East 61st Street in 1969, providing the neighborhood with 50 years of laughs from stars such as Jerry Seinfeld, Robin Williams, Roseanne and Chris Rock.<\/p>\n

Iconic scenes from the 2019 film “Joker” were also shot in the groundbreaking club. The laughter came to a sudden halt in October 2020, when pandemic restrictions forced the club to permanently shutter.<\/p>\n

One question remains unanswered, according to a representative: will the new club bear the name of the iconic “Caddyshack” star?<\/p>\n

Rodney Dangerfield was unavailable to comment as he’s been dead since 2004, but archives show his prediction would have been pessimistic. <\/p>\n

“I don’t get no respect,” he often said. “No respect at all.” <\/p>\n
