BERKELEY, NJ \u2014 A local family is in need after the loss of their son’s medical support dog. And their family friend has launched a fundraiser to help them out.<\/p>\n

Many in Bayville know the Lawrence family and their son, Ryan – better known as “Ry Guy,” family friend Kristy Mackown said. Jenn and Glenn Lawrence have six children, including Ryan. He is non-verbal autistic and epileptic, with Lennox Gastaut Syndrome and Dravat Syndrome, both of which are severe epilepsy disorders.<\/p>\n

Ryan’s support dog, Ian, helped him by detecting seizures, helping with anxiety and more, Mackown told Patch. Sadly, the dog passed away unexpectedly, leaving Ryan without his support.<\/p>\n

“Ian was Ryan’s lifeline,” Mackown wrote in a GoFundMe she created to help the Lawrence family with the unexpected cost of finding a new service dog. It costs nearly $20,000 for the dog and specialized training, she said.<\/p>\n

Ryan has already found his new angel – a dog named Boo – but “time is of the essence” to help bring him home, Mackown said. With the GoFundMe and a recent in-person fundraiser at Tony’s Pizza in Bayville, they still need about $5,000 to cover all the costs, she said.<\/p>\n

“Every little bit helps!” Mackown said.<\/p>\n
