CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA \u2014 One person died in a crash Sunday while driving a Can-Am utility task vehicle \u2014 UTV\u2014 in an unincorporated area near Martinez, according to the California Highway Patrol.<\/p>\n

Shortly after 11 a.m., the CHP Contra Costa Office was advised of the crash on Wolcott Lane and Franklin Canyon Road.<\/p>\n

The CHP’s preliminary investigation indicated the driver and two passengers were riding on the UTV down a wet and muddy road when the driver was not able to safely negotiate a turn and crashed into a chain-link fence. <\/p>\n

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. <\/p>\n

Neither passenger was injured.<\/p>\n

During the on-scene investigation, the CHP determined the driver was not properly wearing restrained by a seatbelt.<\/p>\n

The Contra Costa County coroner’s office will identify the driver once the person’s next of kin is properly notified.<\/p>\n

This crash was still under investigation; the CHP asked anyone with information to call 925-646-4980 or email their contact information to 320Investigations@chp.ca.gov.<\/p>\n
