BLOOMFIELD, NJ \u2014 An Essex County resident was arrested after he allegedly robbed two men looking for work near a Home Depot in Bloomfield earlier this week, authorities announced Thursday.<\/p>\n
According to the Bloomfield Police Department, a man in a silver Mercedes Benz picked up two men who were seeking work near the store around 11:30 a.m. on Monday.<\/p>\n
Once they were in the car, the man pulled out a handgun and demanded that they hand over their money \u2013 but they didn\u2019t have any, police said.<\/p>\n The victims got out of the car and called 911, giving police a description of the suspect and the vehicle, which had a temporary rear license plate. Shortly afterwards, police in Newark spotted the Mercedes Benz in their jurisdiction and began a car chase. The driver crashed and was arrested after a brief foot pursuit.<\/p>\n Bloomfield police later confirmed that the man \u2013 Alameen Mohammed, 27, of Newark \u2013 was the same suspect who allegedly robbed the two workers, authorities said.<\/p>\n Police charged Mohammed with two counts of robbery and weapons offenses.<\/p>\n Send local news tips and correction requests to eric.kiefer@patch.com.
