The Football Association has apologised for a tweet that mocked Harry Kane after Tottenham\u2019s 2-1 loss to Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final.<\/p>\n

Kane was shut out in the semi-final with Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen linking up to provide Spurs lone goal of the contest\u00a0while Alexis Sanchez and Ander Herrera netted the goals for the Red Devils.<\/p>\n

After the match, the FA Cup\u2019s official Twitter account posted a message asking United defender Chris Smalling what was in his pocket . Then attached was a second long clip of Smalling saying \u201cHarry Kane\u201d to something unrelated.<\/p>\n

The tweet was eventually deleted.<\/p>\n

On Monday, the FA announced it had apologised to both teams over the incident.<\/p>\n

“We have written to both clubs to apologise for any offence caused,\u201d an FA spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

Kane has been the subject of many jokes over the past two weeks since successfully winning an appeal to claim a goal originally credited to Eriksen in Tottenham\u2019s victory over Stoke City.<\/p>\n

Most of those jokes have involved players, fans or clubs, warning of or announcing a goal scored would soon be credited to Kane.<\/p>\n

It was even noted during the semi-final itself as after Alli and Alexis’ goals, Wembley Stadium\u2019s official accounted tweeted: \u201cIf anyone says Kane, they\u2019re getting blocked,\u201d when asking which goal was better. <\/p>\n

Kane and Tottenham are next in action April 30 against Watford as they look to secure a top four spot in the Premier League, and with it a place in next year\u2019s Champions League.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
