Phil Jones believes Manchester United are \u201cmoving in the right direction\u201d despite what the club\u2019s many critics would like to suggest.<\/p>\n

Despite securing a runner-up finish in the Premier League and making their way through to the FA Cup final, the Red Devils have once again faced accusations of flopping in 2017-18.<\/p>\n

More is expected of a side which enjoyed domestic dominance for so long under Sir Alex Ferguson, with questions being asked of a supposed defensive brand of football which lacks ambition.<\/p>\n

Jones is used to the detractors by now, having spent seven years at Old Trafford, and believes there are signs of encouragement for United heading forward.<\/p>\n

He told ESPN FC<\/em> ahead of a Wembley date with Chelsea on Saturday: \u201cSuccess for Manchester United is winning the Premier League, adding another trophy and having another good cup run is another one.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think finishing second and winning the FA Cup would probably be satisfactory for Manchester United, but we always want to win more.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt means we are moving in the right direction. We will always have our critics because we are Manchester United. It has been like that since I have been here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jones has faced criticism himself at times during the current campaign, but is hoping to end 2017-18 on a high by securing more major silverware.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

He played no part in Community Shield, EFL\u00a0Cup and Europa League successes last season, while also sitting out an FA Cup triumph in 2016, but is determined to right those wrongs against Chelsea.<\/p>\n

A man also hoping to receive a call into England\u2019s World Cup 2018 squad added: \u201cThe\u00a0[FA Cup final]\u00a0under Van Gaal, I wasn’t playing, so that was OK – not OK, but reasonable.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Europa League final, I got a daft, silly injury at a stupid time. I thought I wouldn’t be fit for the final, then it came and I was, but the manager is probably thinking I had only just come back, could he trust my fitness in a game of that magnitude?<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are disappointed but at the same time, you understand.<\/p>\n
