Alexis Sanchez has been accused of losing his confidence and hunger at Manchester United, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan looks like he \u201cdoesn\u2019t know what he is doing\u201d at Arsenal.<\/p>\n

Two at the very highest level traded places during the January transfer window of 2018.<\/p>\n

With his contract running down at Emirates Stadium, Sanchez opted to swap north London for Manchester.<\/p>\n

As he headed out of the capital, Mkhitaryan went the other way after falling out of favour at Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho.<\/p>\n

Neither has made the expected impact in new surroundings, with Sanchez having sparked talk of another possible move after contributing just five goals to the United cause.<\/p>\n

Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson told Sky Sports<\/em> of the Chilean\u2019s struggles since leaving the Gunners: \u201cI hope we see the old Sanchez, but I don’t see the confidence or the hunger in his eyes anymore.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first thought that used to come to mind when you mentioned Alexis Sanchez was that he worked his socks off, he put a shift in.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the he possesses as a player, he works as hard as anyone, but I don’t see that anymore.<\/p>\n

\u201cSanchez has lost that hunger and it’s a shame. It’s sad because he was good.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Another ex-Gunner, Charlie Nicholas, agrees with that assessment of Sanchez and feels Mkhitaryan has fared no better during his 12 months at Arsenal.<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cI think that\u2019s fair. It\u2019s the same frustration for Arsenal with Mkhitaryan, who has suffered the exact same thing \u2013 just doesn\u2019t know what he is doing even though he is a clever footballer.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt pains people to watch [what is happening to] Sanchez.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was a street fighter, a warrior, with talent. He is now staying rigid on the left and he gives the ball away so often it\u2019s frightening, the level he is playing at.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe will have an occasional burst of games but never as consistent as what he’s been in the past.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sanchez has taken in 20 appearances for United this season, with his most recent drawing plenty of criticism.<\/p>\n
