Chelsea should stick with Willy Caballero ahead of Kepa Arrizabalaga, says Joe Cole, with Maurizio Sarri hailed for making a Sir Alex Ferguson-esque call and dropping a goalkeeper who defied his wishes in the Carabao Cup final.<\/p>\n

The Blues saw their Spanish shot-stopper refuse to be substituted during a meeting with Manchester City at Wembley Stadium.<\/p>\n

An unfortunate episode was written off inside Stamford Bridge as a \u201cmisunderstanding\u201d, but Kepa was fined over his actions and dropped to the bench for a Premier League meeting with Tottenham.<\/p>\n

Caballero kept a clean sheet in that contest, as Chelsea prevailed 2-0 in the London derby, and a starting berth may now be the Argentine\u2019s to lose despite claims from Sarri that the most expensive keeper in world football remains his No.1.<\/p>\n

Former Blues star Cole told BT Sport<\/em>: \u201cI think the manager\u2019s in such a strong position.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe made the right decision, the points are in the pocket. I think he leaves him in.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd by the way he\u2019s a full international, he\u2019s a very good goalkeeper. He\u2019s played for Manchester City, he\u2019s played for big clubs, he won\u2019t let you down.<\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes the goalkeepers, you might say he\u2019s not had much to do. By the way, he would have marshalled that defence, with his experience, telling them where to go.<\/p>\n

\u201cChelsea\u00a0looked solid and the players in front of him looked like they were organised. They were outstanding defensively.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Cole also praised the bravery of Sarri in pulling a big-money addition out of the Chelsea side while being fully aware that such a decision could backfire and generate plenty of unwelcome discussion.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s easy for someone like Alex Ferguson, who had them years of dominance and stature at the club, to do things like that,\u201d added a man who is now part of the Blues\u2019 academy coaching system.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think for a\u00a0Chelsea\u00a0manager to things like that, there\u2019s other factors to it.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve seen the history where the club have changed managers quite regularly. So it\u2019s more of a gamble [at Chelsea].<\/p>\n

\u201cIf Alex Ferguson at Man United does that, everything\u2019s going in that direction and that\u2019s that.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut at this club things can change very quickly.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can\u2019t criticise the board for that as well because they\u2019ve won things and they\u2019ve been successful.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s deliberated it a lot and he knows if it goes wrong, it\u2019s going to come on him. But I applaud him for his bravery and I think it\u2019s the right thing.\u201d<\/p>\n
