Now, it looks like Facebook is recognising the contributions of a local bug bounty hunter, and one still in college that too. The company is honouring 19-year-old KS Ananthakrishna, a BTech student at Pathanamthitta Mount Zion College of Engineering College in Kerala, for spotting a major flaw in WhatsApp.<\/p>\n

Reports indicate Ananthakrisha informed Facebook of the bug, which allowed a hacker to completely extract files on the messaging app without the user’s knowledge. He also suggested a possible fix, which the company took into consideration.<\/p>\n

Now, two months after studying and fixing the bug, Facebook has reportedly decided to award the student $500 (approximately Rs 34,000) for his find, as well as a spot in their bug bounty hall of fame.<\/p>\n

According to reports, Ananthakrishna is quite talented when it comes to coding. He’s reportedly also working with the Kerala Police Cyberdome, a research and development centre for the local police.<\/p>\n
