The internet’s oldest webcam —<\/strong> FogCam from San Francisco — will broadcast for the last time on August 30, 2019, shutting down after a quarter century of continuous broadcast.<\/p>\n

The webcam was located at various locations at San Francisco State University and gave a glimpse of San Francisco’s<\/strong> popular fog ‘Karl’ to the world. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The webcam was first started in the year 1994 by Jeff Schwartz and Dan Wong, who’re known online as Webdog and Danno. They first revealed to the world about this impending webcam shutdown on Saturday. <\/p>\n

The Fogcam inspired quite a few copycats, most famous among them being the Coffee Pot Cam in the University of Cambridge that kept an eye on a coffee pot whether it was full or half-full (or half-empty if you’re a pessimist) or completely empty.<\/p>\n

In a post on Twitter the creators of FogCam revealed, “After 25 years, Fogcam is shutting down forever at the end of August. Webdog & Danno thank our viewers and San Francisco State University for their support over the years. The Internet has changed a lot since 1994, but Fogcam will always have a special place in its history.”<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

In a statement to the San Francisco Chronicle, Jeff Schwartz stated, “We felt it was time to let it go.” He further added, “The bottom line is that we no longer have a really good view or place to put the camera. The university tolerates us, but they don’t really endorse us, and so we have to find secure locations on our own.”<\/p>\n

In an interview with SFGate, the creators have mentioned that the website for the live feed will still be online, it just won’t be showing any video feed. However, it is still commendable to see FogCam survived the advancements in the internet over time, even the social media boom that we’re witnessing today.<\/p>\n
