Only a 100-metre wooden bridge connects it to the outside world.

On August 9, the bridge got washed away due to the heavy rainfall in the area. The 75 residents of the village in Karnataka did not wait for help from officials, and under the supervision of the local carpenters (Lokanna, Manju and Lakshman), started to build themselves a new bridge. And they did that in less than 24 hours.

Don’t Miss

Locally sourced wooden logs were used for the construction that began bright and early at 7.30am. By 4.30pm, it was open for pedestrians and two-wheelers.

The Tumari Gram Panchayat decided to utilise Rs 15,000 from its own funds to rebuild the bridge themselves, reports Hindu.

In a similar instance, Gangadhar Rout, a retired livestock inspector from Odisha’s Kanpur village, was so frustrated with the government’s lack of initiative to build a bridge that he took the task upon himself.

The sight of the unfinished bridge left Gangadhar Rout so angry that he decided to do something on his own. A selfless man, Rout broke in to his pension savings and started planning the construction on his own with aim to give the village the long overdue bridge.

It’s a known fact that things that our country’s roads can in most areas take decades to be constructed or even repaired.
