Directing and starring in A Quiet Place<\/em> and playing the iconic Jack Ryan have been huge opportunities for John Krasinski, but his wife Emily Blunt\u00a0and their daughters Violet, 2, and\u00a0Hazel, 4\u00bd, remain his primary focus.<\/p>\n

\u201cFamily comes first no matter what, and that\u2019s non-negotiable,\u201d he told People<\/em> Saturday at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival in Savannah, Georgia, where he and Blunt\u00a0received awards.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been working a lot this year and we feel so blessed, but at the same time our kids come first and being together comes first.\u201d<\/p>\n

When shooting Jack Ryan<\/em>, the 39-year-old actor flew home every weekend to see his family, he said. Being with his wife and daughters \u201cis not a job or a duty, it\u2019s something I just can\u2019t wait to do. I can\u2019t wait to get back to them. We always make time to see each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Blunt, meanwhile, described family as a \u201cbeautiful, secure foundation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFamily is the foundation for why we are able to go off and have fun and have these incredible experiences,\u201d she said. \u201cI try to take big stretches between [projects] to be with the kids. I\u2019m not going to work until next June and finished my last one in September.\u201d<\/p>\n

Both said the highlight of 2018 so far has been how A Quiet Place<\/em> was received in March at the South by Southwest film festival.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we screened it for the first time ever in the world, that was truly one of those moments I\u2019ll never forget because I think it not only changed my career, it changed my life,\u201d said Krasinski.<\/p>\n

Blunt, 35, explained that the \u201cstratospheric reaction\u201d from the South by Southwest audience made it a \u201ccompletely unparalleled experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cWe did not know what people would think of it and we didn\u2019t know how it would be perceived so it was the warmest of welcomes and one that was truly an unforgettable night,\u201d she told People<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Krasinski, meanwhile, said taking on the role of Jack Ryan has been \u201camazing,\u201d admitting to People<\/em>, \u201cHe is one of those characters I\u2019ve always wanted to play.\u201d<\/p>\n

Explained The Office\u00a0<\/em>alum,\u00a0\u201cIn today\u2019s world, there\u2019s a whole lot of superheroes out there [so] it\u2019s kind of nice to play a guy who doesn\u2019t have a cape and can\u2019t fly but actually just has to use his brain and his instincts. It\u2019s been really fun.\u201d<\/p>\n
