Andres Iniesta has praised Ousmane Dembele’s “genius” and has tipped him to become an important player for Barcelona following a tough start to life with the Catalan giants.<\/p>\n

The France international joined the reigning Liga champions for an initial \u20ac105 million (\u00a390m\/$119m)\u00a0in August 2017.<\/p>\n

Dembele’s spell had barely begun before he was sidelined\u00a0for over three months due to a torn hamstring tendon,\u00a0which required surgery.<\/p>\n

He missed another month of his maiden campaign when he re-injured the muscle upon his return.<\/p>\n

But in the 2018-19 campaign –\u00a0bar a reported fine for arriving two hours late to a training session – the 21-year-old has finally begun to repay Barca’s massive investment with 13 goals in 31 outings in all competitions.<\/p>\n

Though an ankle injury did force Dembele to miss five matches,\u00a0he has established himself as a key figure under Ernesto Valverde.<\/p>\n

And Iniesta, who saw glimpses\u00a0of the\u00a0ex-Rennes forward during the last of his 16\u00a0seasons at Barcelona, expects him to become a vital individual in the future.<\/p>\n

“He is a very special player who can decide a game on his own. Ousmane has so much witty playfulness, speed and determination,” the Spanish World Cup winner,\u00a0who is now playing\u00a0with Vissel Kobe in Japan, told Goal\u00a0and DAZN<\/em>.<\/p>\n

“He helps Barca with his genius. He’s also been scoring very regularly this season. It is a pity that his injury has thrown him back a little bit lately.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“In the coming years he can become a very, very important player for Barca.”<\/p>\n

As Iniesta left to spend the twilight of his career in Asia, Barcelona moved quickly to sign a possible replacement in the form of Arthur\u00a0from Gremio for\u00a0\u20ac40 million\u00a0(\u00a336m\/$47m).<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old has made 10 La Liga starts this term and Iniesta feels his former club have the perfect player to succeed him.<\/p>\n

He said: “Definitely [he can replace me]. He has a strong personality and he always knows what he has to do with the ball.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“But he is young and still needs some time to get used to the team and to fully establish his playing style.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“I think that Barca will have a lot of fun with him.”<\/p>\n

Barca face Real Madrid in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final on Wednesday, with the tie level at 1-1 following the first leg on February 6.<\/p>\n
