{"id":8272,"date":"2020-03-28T13:28:00","date_gmt":"2020-03-28T13:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.incirliseviye.com\/?p=8272"},"modified":"2020-03-28T13:28:00","modified_gmt":"2020-03-28T13:28:00","slug":"parliament-approves-deal-to-return-pakistani-nationals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/onhee.com\/?p=8272","title":{"rendered":"Parliament approves deal to return Pakistani nationals"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"art\"><\/figure>\n<header>\n<h1>Parliament approves deal to return Pakistani nationals<\/h1>\n<p class=\"subhead\">MEPs split on deal, with three groups voting against.<\/p>\n<\/header>\n<footer class=\"meta\">\n<p class=\"byline\">European Voice<\/p>\n<\/footer>\n<footer class=\"meta\">\n<p>\n\t\t\tBy\t\t\t<span class=\"byline\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"vcard\">Constant Brand<\/span>\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"timestamp\"><time datetime=\"2010-09-22T17:00:00+00:00\">9\/22\/10, 5:00 PM CET<\/time><\/p>\n<p class=\"updated\">Updated <time datetime=\"2014-04-12T20:04:41+00:00\">4\/12\/14, 8:04 PM CET<\/time><\/p>\n<\/footer>\n<p>The European Parliament has approved an agreement that obliges the Pakistani government to readmit nationals found to be staying illegally in EU countries. <\/p>\n<p>The vote to accept the readmission agreement, which took the European Commission eight years to negotiate with Pakistan, split the Parliament, with three groups rejecting the deal. <\/p>\n<p>The agreement was approved by 382 MEPs and rejected by 250 in the vote on Tuesday (21 September). <\/p>\n<p>Csaba S\u00f3gor, a Romanian centre-right MEP who guided the Parliament\u2019s report on the agreement through to approval, said that the agreement was \u201can important instrument in fighting illegal migration into the EU\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>The three groups that voted against \u2013 the Socialists and Democrats (S&amp;D), the Greens and the European United Left\/Nordic Green Left (GUE\/NGL) \u2013 argued that the accord offered few guarantees that Pakistan, which is not a signatory to the Geneva Convention on refugee rights, would adhere to international human-rights standards. In an opinion attached to the Parliament\u2019s report, they stated that the agreement \u201ccontains numerous loopholes and ambiguities\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Flautre, a French Green MEP, said the passage of the agreement was \u201cseriously regrettable\u201d, adding that she was concerned about \u201cthe lack of information about the impact of the agreement\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>Sylvie Guillaume, a French Socialist MEP, claimed that the accord, which was signed by EU member states and Pakistan last October, would enable the forced repatriation of minors. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe concern about respect for human rights is even stronger because the agreement not only covers Pakistani nationals, but also third-country nationals who have transited through Pakistan, including Afghans,\u201d said Guillaume. <\/p>\n<p>Martin Schulz, the leader of the S&amp;D, said he had tried to persuade the leaders of other political groups to postpone the vote in order to secure more time to address concerns not just about human rights, but also about Pakistan\u2019s ability to handle returnees following floods this summer.
