The most horrible moment in Chris Keyes’s life turned into something beautiful. His 6-year-old son Dominick was trick-or-treating with his twin brother and other children in their Florida neighborhood when a 3-ton pickup barreled through an intersection and struck him, carrying him 50 feet before skidding to a stop.<\/p>\n
Keyes is still haunted by seeing his son lying in the road. He was sure the little boy was dead.<\/p>\n
“He was unresponsive, not breathing,” he told Patch. “It was the most horrifying moment of my life.”<\/p>\n
Dominick is recovering. His dad says it’s “amazing how quickly he healed.”<\/p>\n
“But we worry that the biggest injuries aren’t visible on the outside,” he said. “Something like this is bound to have a big mental impact. It’s going to take a long time for him to get over this.”<\/p>\n
Knowing it could have easily been one of their children who was injured, families are rallying around the Keyes family. <\/p>\n
