{"id":8351,"date":"2020-04-05T13:42:11","date_gmt":"2020-04-05T13:42:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.incirliseviye.com\/?p=8351"},"modified":"2020-04-05T13:42:11","modified_gmt":"2020-04-05T13:42:11","slug":"lenihan-resists-pressure-for-corporate-tax-rise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/onhee.com\/?p=8351","title":{"rendered":"Lenihan resists pressure for corporate tax rise"},"content":{"rendered":"<header>\n<h1>Lenihan resists pressure for corporate tax rise<\/h1>\n<p class=\"subhead\">Ireland\u2019s finance minister says country will not change tax rate in exchange for aid.<\/p>\n<\/header>\n<footer class=\"meta\">\n<p class=\"byline\">European Voice<\/p>\n<\/footer>\n<footer class=\"meta\">\n<p>\n\t\t\tBy\t\t\t<span class=\"byline\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"vcard\">Ian Wishart<\/span>\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"timestamp\">11\/19\/10, 4:32 AM CET<\/p>\n<p class=\"updated\">Updated 4\/12\/14, 8:22 PM CET<\/p>\n<\/footer>\n<p>Brian Lenihan, Ireland\u2019s finance minister, has vowed that the country will not change its 12.5% corporate tax rate in return for an international aid package.<\/p>\n<p>Lenihan said yesterday (18 November): \u201cI have always made it clear to all international organisations that it is a red line.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some EU member states, particularly France and Germany, are putting Dublin under pressure to raise its corporation tax&nbsp; \u2013 one of the lowest in the eurozone \u2013 as a condition for receiving aid.<\/p>\n<p>The low rate has encouraged multinational companies set up base in Ireland and there are fears that they could move away if the level was increased.<\/p>\n<p>Formal discussions between the Irish government and representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the European Central Bank (ECB) and the European Commission begin today (Friday).<\/p>\n<p>Lenihan admitted to Ireland\u2019s parliament that the government could accept an aid package for the country\u2019s banks. But he added that if a contingency fund was available, it would not necessarily be used.<\/p>\n<p>During talks yesterday officials looked at ways of cutting the number and size of Irish banks, according to a report in the Irish Times.<\/p>\n<p>Discussions raised the possibility of offering guarantees to buyers, funded by the IMF and European stability fund loans, to cover potential losses.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday Patrick Honohan, the governor of the Central Bank of Ireland, said the discussions could lead to Dublin receiving a loan running into \u201ctens of billions\u201d of euros.<\/p>\n<p>Brian Cowen, Ireland\u2019s prime minister, distanced himself from the comments, saying they were \u201cpremature\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Irish government is to publish its four-year budget plan to make savings worth \u20ac15 billion early next week. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<footer class=\"content-credits\">\n<h6>Authors:<\/h6>\n<dl class=\"vcard\">\n<dt class=\"credits-author\"><span class=\"vcard\">Ian Wishart<\/span>&nbsp;<\/dt>\n<\/dl>\n<\/footer>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lenihan resists pressure for corporate tax rise Ireland\u2019s finance minister says country will not change tax rate in exchange for aid.
