43 Elite Athletes from Around
\nthe World Invited for 115th Running on April 18<\/em><\/strong><\/font>\n<\/p>\n

Boston Champions, International
\nChampions and Top Americans Lead the Team<\/em><\/strong><\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nBOSTON, MA, <\/strong>February 10,
\n2011\u0089\u00db\u00d3In its 26th year as principal sponsor of the Boston Marathon,
\nJohn Hancock Financial today announced the elite field for the 115th
\nrunning of the Boston Marathon on April 18. \u00a0A complete field list
\nfollows.<\/font><\/p>\n

Reigning champions Robert Kiprono
\nCheruiyot and Teyba Erkesso will defend their titles, but will be fiercely
\nchallenged by one of the fastest and deepest men\u0089\u00db\u00aas and women\u0089\u00db\u00aas fields
\never assembled for the Boston Marathon. \u00a0<\/font>\n<\/p>\n

Cheruiyot ran a stunning 2:05:52
\ncourse record last year over the difficult Boston course. \u00a0In April
\nhe will face top contenders that include past and present marathon champions
\nof New York City, Chicago, Seoul, Amsterdam, Houston, Xiamen, Torino, Eindhoven,
\nPhoenix, Monaco, Gyeongju, Milan and Nairobi. \u00a0<\/font>\n<\/p>\n

Geoffrey Mutai leads the line-up
\nas the second fastest man in the world last year with a 2:04:55 best. Joining
\nhim are 2:06 men including top American Ryan Hall, Gilbert Yegon, Tadese
\nTola, Evans Cheruiyot and 2010 Seoul course record holder Sylvester Teimet.
\n<\/font>\n<\/p>\n

Challenging this group are the 2010
\nNew York City champion Gebregziabher Gebremariam, the newly crowned Houston
\ncourse record holder Bekana Daba and 2010 Boston runner-up Tekeste Kebede.
\n\u00a0<\/font>\n<\/p>\n

International newcomers to the course
\ninclude Philip Sanga, Feleke Cherkos, Deressa Edae, Stephen Kibiwot, Peter
\nKamais and 2011 Xiamen winner Robert Kipchumba. \u00a0Returning to Boston
\nare Moses Kigen Kipkosgei, Shadrack Kiplagat and American talent Antonio
\nVega. \u00a0Irish Olympian Alistair Cragg and Kenyan Moses Mosop will make
\ntheir marathon debuts. \u00a0<\/font>\n<\/p>\n

On the women\u0089\u00db\u00aas side, the historic
\nrace in Boston has been decided over the past three years by three seconds
\nor less. \u00a0Last year Teyba Erkesso maintained a three second lead to
\nthe finish as she held off a charging Tatyana Pushkareva. \u00a0This year\u0089\u00db\u00aas
\nrace likely will prove just as competitive with 16 women in the field holding
\ntimes of 2:26:20 or better. \u00a0<\/font>\n<\/p>\n

Past champions Salina Kosgei, Dire
\nTune and four-time winner Catherine Ndereba join Erkesso and Pushkareva.
\n\u00a0The experienced trio will contest a highly competitive race that
\nincludes 2010 international marathon champions, top Americans and talented
\nnewcomers. <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

Chasing the Boston champions are
\n2010 international marathon winners including Sharon Cherop, who edged
\nTirfi Tsegaye Beyene to win Toronto by one second, and Caroline Kilel,
\nwho won Frankfurt after a duel with Dire Tune. \u00a0Carpi champion Hellen
\nMugo is on the team and she joins Amsterdam winner Alice Timbilili.<\/font>\n<\/p>\n

Challenging the group are top Americans
\nKara Goucher, who finished third in Boston in 2009, and Desiree Davila,
\nthe fastest American of 2010 with her fourth place finish in Chicago, and
\nOlympian Blake Russell. International competitors include New Zealand Olympian
\nKim Smith, former Russian national record holder Galina Bogomolova and
\nyoung talent Merima Mohammed from Ethiopia. <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

Werknesh Kidane and Florence Kiplagat
\nalso bring significant credentials to the race. \u00a0Kidane is a multiple
\njunior and senior World Cross Country champion (2 gold, 3 silver, 3 bronze)
\nand Kiplagat, who will make her marathon debut, is a World Half Marathon
\nand World Cross Country champion. \u00a0Both women are married to men in
\nthe field: Kidane is married to Gebregziabher Gebremariam and Kiplagat
\nis married to Moses Mosop.<\/font>\n<\/p>\n

Additional talent includes Silvia
\nSkvortsova, Teyba Naser, Woynishet Girma and Yuliya Ruban.<\/font>\n<\/p>\n
