\nInc. was presented with the Fleet Feet, Inc. Lifetime Commitment to Running
\nAward by CEO Tom Rayner at a ceremony held in San Diego on June 24. The award
\nrecognizes an industry leader who has shown career-long dedication to the

McGillivray has been BAA
\nBoston Marathon Race Director since 1988 and has actually run the marathon
\nconsecutively since 1973. He is also President of Dave McGillivray Sports

\nrace committees in the world, and what I always try to drive home to them is
\nthat these are more than just <\/em>\u0089\u00db\u00cfraces\u0089\u00db\u009d
\nwe put on. In many cases, we\u00e6_re helping people realize a personal goal, or a
\ndream…like so many who run Boston for the first time.\u0089\u00db\u009d\u00a0 <\/p>\n
\nin running really took off in 1978, at age 23, when he ran 3,452 miles across
\nthe country from Medford, OR to his hometown of Medford, MA to raise money for
\nchildren with cancer. It was upon his return that he began his long-time career
\nin the industry. Among other things, McGillivray has owned a running store;
\nworked for a running shoe company; been an agent to world class triathletes,
\nincluding Dave Scott and Karen Smyers, and has been organizing and directing
\ncharitable endurance events for nearly three decades which have collectively
\nraised tens of millions of dollars. His inspirational story of overcoming
\nlife\u00e6_s obstacles to achieve success is depicted in a book, The Last Pick
\n(Rodale 2006).<\/p>\n

\ntremendous contributions to the sport of running.<\/p>\n
\naward include Bill Rodgers, Jeff and Barbara Galloway, Amby Burfoot, Elizabeth
\nGoeke and Ellen Wessel (Founders of Moving Comfort), Betty and Roy Benson, and
\nJim Davis of New Balance.<\/p>\n
