MANKATO, Minn. — Senior Zach Johnston earned Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Wrestler of the Week honors after earning a pair of individual wins in the Mavericks’ wins over U-Mary and No. 23 Minot State.<\/p>\n

Johnston, a Waukee, Iowa native, improved to 13-4 on the season. The 174-pounder, who holds the No. 10 ranking, posted a 6-2 upset win over No. 7 Phillip Springsteen of U-Mary in the Mavericks’ 29-12 win over the Marauders. He also cruised to a 19-4 technical fall win over Joey Lopez of Minot State as the Mavericks topped the Beavers 27-13.<\/p>\n

This is Johnston’s second time being named NSIC Wrestler of the Week during the 2019-20 season. He earned the honor on Dec. 9, 2019 after wresting his way to a 5-0 record en route to winning the 174-pound bracket at the Buena Vista Open.<\/p>\n

The No. 17 Minnesota State wrestling team will be back in action Thursday, Jan. 30, when the Mavericks travel to Marshall, Minn., to face the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m.<\/p>\n
