— On last night’s edition of the taped WWE Smackdown show, it was announced that John Cena would be returning to show next week for the New Year’s edition. Smackdown will once again be taped in advance, this time on Saturday in Pittsburgh, PA. Also announced on the show is a segment with The New Day, where they will be holding a New Year’s celebration.
— With yesterday’s Smackdown taped the week before, WWE edited in a few backstage segments that weren’t part of the original spoilers. Notably, Vince McMahon once again appeared, engaging in an incident with AJ Styles at the end of the show where he appeared to try and get a reaction out of Styles.
