In 2016 WWE acquired one of the most unique professional wrestlers to ever lace up a pair of boots, Shinsuke Nakamura, as a part of their shocking clean-out of the New Japan Pro Wrestling locker room which also included the signings of AJ Styles, Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson and earlier, Finn Balor.
In order to truly showcase what made the King of Strong-Style a special superstar, WWE needed an equally impressive in-ring competitor that could be depended upon to make Nakamura’s debut as big as possible. And so the honor went to the eternally passionate former NXT Champion Sami Zayn.
