The Injured List Continues to Grow
Randy Orton was off the recent WWE European tour as he recently had surgery to repair a knee injury that’s been bothering him since last year. He won’t be out of action for too long, but it may be upwards of three months. Orton has reportedly been waiting to take time off, likely so he didn’t have to miss WrestleMania and the major payday that goes along with it.
Big Cass was limping a whole lot during the European tour, so much so that we originally reported that he had suffered an injury. He continued to work the tour, with some claiming he was selling the effects of Daniel Bryan beating him up on Smackdown, and some claiming he was legitimately banged up and might have to take even more time off. WWE then released a statement playing up the angle with Bryan, and has now pulled Cass from his match with Samoa Joe on Smackdown Live, which – again – might just be part of the story. Time will tell….
Mustafa Ali also lacerated the top of his head pretty badly in a match with Cedric Alexander during the tour. He required nine staples to keep his scalp together, but luckily the injury came during the final RAW live event of the tour, so he didn’t have to miss anything.
Still no word on Jason Jordan… He’s been cleared since before WrestleMania, but for whatever reason they just haven’t brought him back to television yet.
Impact Under Pressure
Impact Wrestling will be running another television special on May 31st that will bridge the gap between their major pay-per-view events. Much like the Crossroads special earlier this year it will be a normal two-hour, pre-taped episode of the show but they’ll play off some of the major storylines going on to start fresh heading into Slammiversary on July 22nd.
Right now the announced card for Impact Under Pressure has Austin Aries getting his rematch for the Impact World Championship against Pentagon Jr., Allie defending the Knockouts title against Su Yung – who has been the primary reason to watch Impact TV over the last few weeks – and Tessa Blanchard facing Knockouts legend Madison Rayne.
Best of the Super Juniors
The NJPW Best of the Super Juniors tournament kicked off with a bang, running three consecutive shows this past weekend. If the quality of what we’ve seen so far continues over the course of the next few weeks, this may end up being the single best junior heavyweight tournament since the 1994 Super J-Cup.
As expected the newcomer Taiji Ishimori is killing it with two major wins, one over the champion Will Ospreay that left everyone begging for an immediate rematch. All the New Japan mainstays you would expect to be stealing the show are doing so, while ACH has found a more serious tone this year, and Sho has cemented himself as a major player after killing it in his match with Dragon Lee. If the first three shows have proved anything, it’s that with stars like Sho, Yoh, Ishimori, Hiromu, Bushi, Ospreay and Scurll, the division’s future is in excellent shape assuming that they can keep most, if not all of them on board.
