WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair made her way out for an interview with Dasha. Before she could speak the Riott Squad’s music hit and the trio slowly surrounded the ring. Ruby Riott backs the other two ladies off and decides to go it alone this time, immediately banishing Dasha from the ring for being “uninformed”. Ruby said that people think this feud between her and Charlotte goes back a few weeks, but in reality it’s been going on for years. In fact, it’s been going on since the first day Charlotte won her first women’s title because that’s when the myth began. Ruby said she was sick of the legendary Flair name and the lies that Charlotte is the best women’s wrestler on the planet, and that’s why she put together the Riott Squad in the first place: to put an end to that myth.
Charlotte finally got on the mic and said the only myth about her is that she’s been “handed” anything in her career. She talked about working hard her whole life and having the pressure of the Flair name on her shoulders, which means that simply succeeding is never good enough; she has to be transcendent just to live up to the expectations. Charlotte says there is no myth, and she’s every bit as people say she is, but if Ruby doesn’t believe her she can step up and take her shot.
Ruby laughed at the champion and said all that pressure is on the line Sunday at Fastlane and she was going to enjoy knocking the self-proclaimed “Queen” off her pedestal. She signaled to the other members of the Riott Squad who once again surrounded the ring like a pack of hyenas. It looked like things were about to break down, but “GLORIOUS” Bobby Roode’s music hit and the United States Champ made his way to the ring for tonight’s opening match, effectively squashing the tension and saving his Mixed Match Challenge partner in the process.
RANDY ORTON vs. JINDER MAHAL
Pretty standard match with Bobby Roode on commentary throughout. Orton hit some big moves early on to pop the crowd but Jinder Mahal quickly took things over the slowed down the pace as much as possible. The “Modern Day Maharaja” worked over his opponents back and neck for several minutes, through a commercial break, with Sunil Singh getting involved every time Orton tried to mount a comeback. Eventually they fought to the outside and Orton DESTROYED Sunil with a big back body drop through the commentary table! Mahal went out after him but got thrown into Bobby Roode with both guys going down hard. Back in the Orton hit the Hangman’s DDT on his opponent and fired up for the RKO, but Roode got up on the apron and started screaming at both men. The distraction was enough for Mahal to sneak up behind and plant Orton with the Khallas, picking up 1…2…3.
Winner: Jinder Mahal
