On this episode, Matt speaks with Cary about how he first became involved with ROH, the challenges of running the company, his dealings with Ric Flair, Jim Cornette much more.
In the following clip, Cary tells Matt about his dealings with WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, the ESPN “30 for 30”, & how Flair still owes him money for no showing several Ring of Honor events. Below is a quote from Silkin on how Flair ended up working with ROH following WrestleMania in 2008:
“When [Ric Flair] came off of the 2008 WrestleMania, when he did his famous retirement match with Shawn Michaels, and then they did that great sendoff the next night on Monday Night Raw, I was contacted by someone representing him, that he would be able to come to Ring of Honor.
“And we were working with HDNet at the time, and they were willing to kick in some money. Flair came, and he did a few of the HDNet tapings, and then the third taping, he must have got a phone call from Vince [McMahon] saying, ‘look, if you ever want to be with WWE in the future I don’t want you working with Ring of Honor.’ So, he informed us of that, and he also said he will do these autograph signings. And like a fool, I had given him some money in advance, and after about the fourth autograph signing, where there was about another four to go, he just dropped the ball.”
