A spokesperson for Ligue 1 club OGC Nice’s owners INEOS has said that the group have no intention of attempting to buy Premier League side Liverpool, adding that their focus is on challenging Paris Saint-Germain’s supremacy in Ligue 1.
Liverpool’s owners, American group, Fenway Sports, put the Anfield club up for sale on Monday, fuelling speculation of a bid from INEOS, owned by British businessman Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who have previously expressed an interest in purchasing Manchester United, and made a bid to buy Chelsea earlier this year. However, those rumours have been quashed by an INEOS spokesperson, who denied any interest to The Telegraph.
“Our position has developed since the summer and we are now concentrating our efforts on Nice. We’re raising our ambitions so that the club can reach the top in France and rival PSG,” said the spokesperson.
The statement affirms INEOS’ commitment to the Riviera club despite Ratcliffe’s commitment to the project at Nice being questioned of late after his attempts in the spring to purchase Chelsea. American investor Todd Boehly ultimately won the bidding process to obtain the Premier League giants.
