Rey Mysterio to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame

Rey Mysterio is the first inductee announced for this year’s WWE Hall of Fame.

Mysterio was announced during Friday’s SmackDown. After a video had aired showing his career highlights, Mysterio came out and started to speak when his son, Dominik, interrupted. Legado de Fantasma then came out, with Santos Escobar demanding they start the six-man tag now between Legado de Fantasma and Judgment day. Judgment Day ended up winning the match.

After the match, Dominik asked his father to enter the ring. He continued to berate him, eventually telling Rey that he should have been Eddie Guerrero’s son. Dominik then attacked his father, but Rey sent him out of the ring to end the segment.

Mysterio started his career in 1989, wrestling in the independent scene before starting with AAA in 1992. After a short run in ECW, Mysterio wrestled for WCW starting in 1996 through the company’s closure in 2001. In 2002, he signed with the WWE, winning the WWE Championship and World Heavyweight titles throughout his long run in the company. After leaving WWE for a brief period starting in 2015, he returned to the company in 2018 and has spent recent years teaming with his son, Dominik Mysterio, before Dominik turned on him last fall.

This year’s WWE Hall of Fame ceremony will take place after WWE SmackDown on March 31 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. It will stream live on Peacock.
