NEW CANAAN, CT — Four years since her murder and disappearance on May 24, 2019, the family of Jennifer Farber Dulos continues to grieve the loss.
The New Canaan mother-of-five vanished from her home after taking her children to school, and authorities believe she was kidnapped and killed by her estranged husband, Fotis Dulos, who months later took his own life.
With his death, the mystery remains of what happened to Jennifer Dulos. Her body has not been found, and the “case is open and active,” according to Carrie Luft, the longtime friend of Jennifer’s who is a spokesperson for her family and friends.

The Duloses were going through a contentious divorce and child custody battle at the time of Jennifer’s disappearance, which led police to charge Fotis with kidnapping and murder. With his death, he never stood trial.
“May 24, 2023, marks four years since the murder and disappearance of Jennifer Farber Dulos,” Luft said this week in a statement. “We continue to grieve the loss of her loving devotion to her children and family, her friendship, courage, brilliance, humor, and singular ability to touch the lives of the people she encountered.

“The investigation into Jennifer’s case is open and active, and the Connecticut state’s attorney’s office continues with pretrial discovery and preparation. Two individuals have yet to stand trial for conspiracy to murder, and we await the next steps in the legal process.”
Those two individuals are Michelle Troconis, Fotis’ ex-girlfriend, and Kent Mawhinney, a former attorney and former friend of Fotis’. The two have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, for which both have pleaded not guilty, though Mawhinney is expected to testify against Troconis at trial.
Prosecutors accuse the two of helping Fotis in the murder plot, primarily in trying to script an alibi.
Mawhinney’s case is expected to go to trial first, though a date has not yet been set. He was recently released from house arrest.
Troconis’ next pretrial court appearance is Friday, and she recently had her GPS monitoring device removed from her ankle.
The case is a grim reminder of the specter of domestic violence, and in her statement, Luft wants to ensure that the public never forgets the magnitude of the problem, especially directed toward women of color.
“Intimate partner violence cuts across gender, economic, and racial/ethnic lines, and it disproportionately affects women of color,” Luft said. “In Jennifer’s honor, we wish to turn the public’s attention to the many victims and survivors of intimate partner violence whose stories do not receive widespread media coverage. You can help change this disparity by donating to the Black and Missing Foundation (https://www.blackandmissinginc.com/), and by encouraging the media to give equal attention to all victims. Thank you.”
