Man Who Went Missing In Chain O' Lakes Still Not Found: Police

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A 52-year-old Mount Prospect man who jumped into Lake Catherine near Antioch Saturday afternoon has still not been located, authorities said Monday.

As of Monday morning, authorities have called off the search for the man who jumped off a pontoon boat at about 3:50 p.m. Saturday. He briefly resurfaced but then went below the water has not been seen since, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

“Systematic search efforts have been suspended, pending the man’s body surfacing,” Christopher Covelli, deputy chief for the sheriff’s office, told Patch in an email response Monday morning.

The man’s son was operating the boat at the time of the incident Saturday afternoon.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office’s marine unit and fire department boats searched the lake Saturday afternoon until midnight and then resumed the search again at about 6 a.m. Sunday. Sonar-equipped boats searched the lake, but the man was not located by the end of the day, according to the Daily Herald.
