OCEANSIDE, CA — An Oceanside nurse won big on “Let’s Make a Deal.”
Jill Crete, 35, won a car while competing on the game show, which is known for audience members who dress in crazy costumes in order to increase their chances of being selected as a contestant.
“Being a contestant on “Let’s Make a Deal” was one of the best experiences of my life,” said Crete, who has lived in Oceanside for two years with her husband who serves as a Marine.

“It was so much fun cheering for one another who had gotten chosen to play for a prize,” she told Patch. “My favorite part was being chosen to win a prize.”
Crete got to play the “Rock, Paper, Scissors” game.

She beat another contestant and was offered a chance to trade her $1,000 winnings for a car. In order to win the vehicle, she had to choose the “Rock, Paper, or Scissors” emblem out of three cards. Behind two of the cards was $100, while the car was behind the third card.
“Before going on stage, my husband told me to look for the ‘cardinal’ during the show,” Crete explained. “My dad passed away a few years ago, and there was a red cardinal on our street that would chirp at my mom. We always joked that it was my dad.
“Well, wouldn’t you know that when the curtain pulled away to reveal the car, it was a bright red car,” she said. “I knew I had to go for it.”
Crete picked “rock,” which turned out to be the car.
“I couldn’t believe it,” she said. “I started jumping up and down and screaming. It was one of the most thrilling experiences!”
It was Crete’s first time appearing on a game show. She learned about the opportunity after someone posted an application for the show on a Facebook group for military spouses. She was selected after a phone interview, followed by a virtual interview.
“I couldn’t believe it,” recalled Crete, who is a longtime fan of the show and host Wayne Brady.
“I love how inclusive the show is and how fun they make it for the contestants and viewers,” she said. “You get to wear a ridiculous costume of your choice and just let out the fun, wild being that you are on the show.”
The episode re-airs Tuesday on CBS. Tune in at 9 a.m. to cheer Crete on again.
“I just want to give a huge thanks to all the staff, hosts and fellow contestants of “Let’s Make a Deal,” Crete said. “It was such an amazing experience, and I urge anyone who is even thinking of applying to just do it. It’s the experience of a lifetime!”
