Update —
Our Dave Meltzer has confirmed that Rey Mysterio's knee surgery is legitimate.
**********
WWE star Rey Mysterio is recovering from a knee operation.
In a social media post on Tuesday, Mysterio stated that he underwent successful surgery on his knee. Mysterio said the surgery was done by Dr. Jeffrey Dugas at the Andrew's Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Alabama.
Mysterio posted a picture of himself with one of his legs bandaged up after surgery. He didn't reveal any specific details about the operation or how long he'll be out of action. Haus of Wrestling reports that Mysterio is expected to be out for 6-8 weeks.
"Knee surgery was successful," Mysterio wrote. "Now payback on @escobarwwe is on the horizon!"
There was an angle on SmackDown last Friday where Santos Escobar turned against Mysterio and attacked him. The turn came after dissension within The LWO. Carlito blamed Escobar for how Mysterio lost the United States title to Logan Paul at Crown Jewel. Escobar tried to help Mysterio in that match, but he accidentally left brass knuckles on the ring apron. Paul picked up the brass knux and used them to defeat Mysterio and become the new United States Champion.
The brass knux had been introduced into the match by a member of Paul's entourage.
Escobar responded to Mysterio's surgery announcement on Tuesday: "Don’t come back."
