Manchester United vs Brighton: TV channel, live stream, squad news & FA Cup preview

The Red Devils were left reeling after being dumped out of Europe’s premier club competition on their own patch and will be eager to make amends

Manchester United will look to put their Champions League disappointment behind them when they take on Brighton in the FA Cup quarter-final on Saturday.

Jose Mourinho’s side were dumped out of Europe’s premier club competition by Sevilla on Tuesday and the FA Cup is now their only realistic chance of winning silverware this season.

United overcame Derby County, Yeovil Town and Huddersfield Town to reach the quarter-finals and they will approach the game with caution having already suffered two cup upsets this season.

Match Preview

Manchester United’s season took a major blow during the week as they lost at home to see their Champions League hopes go up in smoke and Mourinho will be determined to bounce back from that disappointment by making an example of Brighton and progressing to the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

With cross-town rivals Manchester City set to wrap up the Premier League title in a matter of games, England’s most presitigious trophy offers the Red Devils their only realistic shot at winning silverware this season, but they face a tricky opponent in the form of Hughton’s Seagulls.

Brighton have been performing above expectations in the league since their promotion from the Championship, finding themselves in 11th place in the table, and in a demonstration of their capability for an upset they recently recorded a convincing victory over Arsenal.

A Lewis Dunk own-goal was all that separated the sides when they met in a closely fought encounter at Old Trafford last November but, having already suffered the ignominy of elimination from the Carabao Cup and the Champions League, United will be keen not to let the game come down to such fine margins on Saturday.

With the international break also looming on the horizon, the importance of the game has taken on a greater significance for Mourinho in particular, who will be desperate to avoid having to stew on a series of body blows to his side’s campaign.
