Fatal UTV Crash Investigated In Contra Costa County: CHP

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — One person died in a crash Sunday while driving a Can-Am utility task vehicle — UTV— in an unincorporated area near Martinez, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Shortly after 11 a.m., the CHP Contra Costa Office was advised of the crash on Wolcott Lane and Franklin Canyon Road.

The CHP’s preliminary investigation indicated the driver and two passengers were riding on the UTV down a wet and muddy road when the driver was not able to safely negotiate a turn and crashed into a chain-link fence.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neither passenger was injured.

During the on-scene investigation, the CHP determined the driver was not properly wearing restrained by a seatbelt.

The Contra Costa County coroner’s office will identify the driver once the person’s next of kin is properly notified.
