2 Paws Crossed Pups Will Be Playing In 'Puppy Bowl XX'

ELMSFORD, NY — Two local pups from Paws Crossed Animal Rescue in Elmsford will be taking part in the other “big game” Sunday, Feb. 11.

Animal Planet’s “Puppy Bowl,” television’s cutest sports competition, returns to present adoptable dogs on football’s biggest day.

This year Elmsford’s Paws Crossed Animal Rescue will be represented by Bailey and Justin. They originally hail from North Carolina coming to Westchester County through Paws Crossed’s transport partners at the Shelter Dog Transport Alliance.

Having two of its pups in the Puppy Bowl spotlight is nothing to be taken lightly, according to Julie Potter, business and development director at Paws Crossed.

She said in an email that this year, Animal Planet is hosting 131 puppies from 73 shelters across 36 states and territories.

“For Paws Crossed Animal Rescue, participating in the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet brings national attention to the critical work that we do every single day, is an adorable way to spotlight our magnificent adoptable pets and shines a light on the lifesaving importance of the philosophy of #opttoadopt,” Potter said.

Both Justin and Bailey are Chinese shar-pei/Norwegian elkhound mixes, though Bailey is playing for Team Fluff and Justin is playing for Team Ruff.

Moreover, Potter said the two doggie brothers fit into the sport’s history by having two brothers playing on different football teams. Think Eli and Peyton Manning and Travis and Jason Kelce, she said.

“It doesn’t matter which team wins the title,” Potter said, “every pup involved in the Puppy Bowl is a winner.”

And while Bailey and Justin have already been adopted by two families, there are plenty of other pets still looking for their forever homes at Paws Crossed Animal Rescue.

“Puppy Bowl XX” will air at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11 on Animal Planet.
