DUI Charge For Driver Who Hit Fire Truck, Parked Car: St. Pete Police

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — An SUV driver who hit a fire truck and a parked car Saturday night was accused of driving under the influence, Yolanda Fernandez, community awareness division manager with the St. Petersburg Police Department, told Patch.

Tammy Austin, 54, ran a red light on 22nd Street S. around 8 p.m. and hit a fire truck that was heading west on 5th Avenue S., Fernandez said.

She didn’t stop and about five minutes later, while traveling east on 1st Avenue S., Austin hit a parked vehicle near 22nd Street S.

This caused a chain reaction and three parked vehicles were rear-ended, Fernandez said.

Austin was arrested and charged with DUI involving property damage and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage.

No one was injured in any of the crashes.
