Men Seeking Work Near NJ Home Depot Robbed At Gunpoint: Police

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — An Essex County resident was arrested after he allegedly robbed two men looking for work near a Home Depot in Bloomfield earlier this week, authorities announced Thursday.

According to the Bloomfield Police Department, a man in a silver Mercedes Benz picked up two men who were seeking work near the store around 11:30 a.m. on Monday.

Once they were in the car, the man pulled out a handgun and demanded that they hand over their money – but they didn’t have any, police said.

The victims got out of the car and called 911, giving police a description of the suspect and the vehicle, which had a temporary rear license plate. Shortly afterwards, police in Newark spotted the Mercedes Benz in their jurisdiction and began a car chase. The driver crashed and was arrested after a brief foot pursuit.

Bloomfield police later confirmed that the man – Alameen Mohammed, 27, of Newark – was the same suspect who allegedly robbed the two workers, authorities said.
