DARIEN, IL – Hinsdale South High School is following Hinsdale Central: It is offering girls flag football.
On Thursday night, the Hinsdale High School District 86 board unanimously approved spending up to $38,120 this coming school year on the sport at South. Member Jeff Waters was absent.
Of that money, up to $21,120 would go toward stipends for the head coach and one assistant coach. The rest would be spent on uniforms, equipment, transportation and officials.

According to the district, 31 girls are interested in playing the fall sport. None of the girls played a current fall sport.
In April, the board approved girls flag football at Central.

The current girls fall sports are cross country, golf, swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball.
Lyons Township High School is also poised to add girls flag football.
The Illinois High School Association now recognizes flag football as a sport.
