WESTBOROUGH, MA — Westborough’s first dog park is on track for a fall opening after recently clearing a major hurdle before construction.
The Westborough Recreation Department’s plans for the park recently received approvals from the town’s planning and building departments. That means the town can now hire a construction company to break ground. The town will likely put out that construction bid this month.
The project has funding via a $250,000 Stanton Foundation grant, with an additional $107,000 available from the town’s share of the ARPA federal pandemic relief program.

The park will be located on a mostly vacant piece of land on the state hospital property near 100 Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller Drive off of Lyman Street southeast of town soccer and cricket fields. The half-acre park would include a new parking area and pathways. The park would be separated into areas for large and small dogs, and would include an agility course.
There are few official off-leash areas in the Westborough area. The Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine has a large dog park near the corner of Nourse and Glen streets, but requires an annual fee and registration for use. Northborough is also in the process of building a dog park along Boundary Street, and also received a Stanton Foundation grant for the project.
