Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the following events happened over the lunch hour on Friday the 13th along the city’s west side:

At 12:44 p.m., the officers responded to the 100 block of South Hammes Avenue for a domestic disturbance. The officers located Woods and a woman standing outside a parked vehicle; Woods stood over her as she sat on the ground.

When the officer tried to intervene, Woods struck the officer’s arms and hands while trying to swat the officer’s hands away, the police noted.

Woods indicated he was not going to be taken into custody and refused to place his hands behind his back. Eventually, an officer deployed a taser and Woods was placed into custody without further incident.

The officers later determined that Woods forced the woman into his vehicle and drove around the block. While in the vehicle, Woods struck the victim in the head and body numerous times. The victim then jumped from the moving vehicle in the 100 block of South Hammes shortly before the Joliet police arrived on the scene.

Woods remained in the jail on Tuesday; he comes from the 100 block of South Hammes Ave.
