WEST HARTFORD, CT — The town’s library system recently received a large funding boost when the West Hartford Town Council approved nearly $80,000 for significant upgrades.
The West Hartford Town Council voted 8-0 to appropriate $79,919 from the West Hartford Library Fund, a special revenue fund where grant dollars are deposited.
Every year, the council acts on taking money out of this fund on the recommendations of library officials.

This latest appropriation will help the West Hartford Public Library System purchase new computers, supplies, furniture, and equipment for all of the system’s branches.
In addition, the funding will help the library pay for “professional services,” such as performers and speakers for library attractions.

The funding comes from the 2024-25 budget.
According to a town breakdown of the appropriation, $15,000 will be for computers; $49,919 for furniture; $10,000 for miscellaneous administrative expenses; and $5,000 for professional services.
“This is an annual administrative resolution,” West Hartford Town Manager Rick Ledwith said at the meeting. “With that account, we usually use those funds to secure speakers and performers throughout the year.”
The council quickly approved the measure with no discussion.
