FAIRFAX CITY, VA —Early voting is underway at the Fairfax City Hall polling place for the Nov. 5 general election. In addition to national candidates, city voters will find candidates running in the city council, school board and mayoral races.
Jack Ryan is one of the six candidates on the ballot in the Fairfax City Council race that have not previously run for elected office. Three incumbent candidates are running for reelection and two current members of the City of Fairfax School Board are seeking seats on the council.
All of the candidates in the city council race participated in the Sept. 25 candidate meet-and-greet at the Sherwood Community Center. Before voters got a chance to speak one-on-one with them, each of the candidates delivered a statement summarizing their reasons for running. The following are the remarks Ryan made at that event.

Jack Ryan
“Thank you to everyone, for coming out and supporting us and everything that we do.
“I have deep roots in the city, here in Fairfax. I grew up here, went to Sydney Lanier Middle School [now Katherine Johnson Middle School], and Fairfax High. I graduated from Fairfax High School back in 2007. The George Mason staff helped me get an ROTC scholarship to Penn State, so to achieve my dream of becoming a military officer and also getting in the army to foot the bill for college as well.
“There’s a lot of great things about this city that deserve to be preserved, and I think we can come together as a community. We have incredible people live in the city with us, doctors, lawyers, PhDs, servicemembers, airmen, Marines, police officers, soldiers, sailors, I think we can truly come together as a community and figure out some of these complex problems that me and the other candidates have been talking to the community about.
“I look forward to meeting all of you if there’s time at the end of the night, but for those that have already met, I look forward to engaging with you further. So thank you for coming out here, and thank you for everything you all do to support the community.”
