Another Darien Chain Eatery Closes Doors

DARIEN, IL – The temple to Fridays is no longer in business in Darien.

Earlier this month, TGI Fridays, 2201 75th St., closed its doors. It is in the Darien Towne Center, which includes Walmart.

Last month, the TGI Fridays chain filed for bankruptcy protection. The Associated Press reports that the chain has closed dozens of locations this year.

The chain peaked at 601 restaurants in 2008, falling to 163 as of last month, according to the AP.

Eight are in Illinois, including suburban locations in Oswego, Aurora, Oak Lawn and Bedford Park.

Last week, Darien’s Wendy’s restaurant at Route 83 and Plainfield Road shut down.

During Monday’s City Council meeting, Dan Gombac, the municipal services director, said the two eateries were seeing a lack of sales.

The TGI Fridays restaurant was also experiencing a lack of help, he said.

“The service there has gone downhill since it was taken over years ago by a new corporation,” Gombac said. “Hopefully, we’ll get something in there that is good and exciting.”
