Crystal Lake Man, 19, Charged In Serious Algonquin Collision

LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — A 19-year-old Crystal Lake man faces felony charges for allegations he caused a crash that seriously injured two people.

Avery Marty has been charged with two counts of aggravated reckless driving, reckless driving, improper traffic lane usage and failure to reduce speed in connection with the two-vehicle crash in Algonquin on June 29 that left two people seriously injured, according to a criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court.

The indictment was filed in McHenry County on Dec. 19. Marty appeared for a hearing that same day and was granted pre-trial release, according to court officials.

The collision happened at about 9:45 p.m. on June 29 when a white sedan headed south on Randall Road near Bunker Hill Road lost control, hit a curb and crossed over the centerline and into northbound lanes of traffic, colliding with a northbound dark-colored sport utility vehicle, according to a news release from the Algonquin Police Department.

The collision left one woman with serious injuries, causing a laceration to her spleen and an abdominal injury that required partial removal of her colon and rib fractures, according to court documents. Another person suffered a fractured arm and wrist.

Authorities say Marty’s reckless driving lead to the crash.

Marty is next expected in court on Jan. 11.
