Unai Emery has defended his decision to substitute Alexandre Lacazette during Arsenal’s 4-1 victory over Fulham in the Premier League on New Year’s Day.
The Gunners boss replaced Lacazette with Aaron Ramsey on 75 minutes with the fans booing his decision to take off the France international.
However, the Spaniard will have felt vindicated when Ramsey scored Arsenal’s third goal only minutes after coming off the bench.
“I understand the supporters,” Emery said. “I need to do my work. Tactically we thought in that moment we needed to change for more balance.
“Above all we knew that [Jean Michael] Seri was coming on and we needed a player close to him, not to let him play easily with the ball. Ramsey can do that and also help us in attack, and he scored.
“In my career I have different moments when I made similar decisions. We need to decide with a cold mind what is the best decision.”
