Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool are unlikely to sign a centre-half in the January transfer window.
Virgil van Dijk and Dejan Lovren are currently the only fit senior central defenders at the club with the Reds having some notable injury problems in defence.
Joe Gomez and Joel Matip both currently ruled out through injury, having missed the entire festive schedule.
The pair will miss the FA Cup match with Wolves on Monday night as well as the Premier League clash at Brighton on January 12 but Klopp is hopeful he could have them fit for Crystal Palace on January 19.
There had been rumours that injuries would force Klopp into the transfer market but Klopp insists that is unlikely to be the case.
“We will see what we do,” Klopp said. “But we cannot, we will not sign a centre-half for one game or whatever, that will not happen.
“Joe and Joel look good – obviously not good enough for Monday, not good enough I would say for the game after that, for Brighton, [but] hopefully then they are at least in full team training.
“I think for Joel it would be possible, for Joe at least there’s a little hope that it can be the same, so we will see. Joe had a good day, a very good day [on Friday], so that’s good.”
