Jurgen Klopp has issued an update on Dejan Lovren’s injury, while he has answered questions on whether Liverpool will buy a centre-back in the transfer window.
Lovren came off the pitch on six minutes clutching his hamstring as the Reds lost 2-1 to Wolves in the third round of the FA Cup on Monday night.
16-year-old Ki-Jana Hoever became Liverpool’s youngest ever player in the FA Cup when he replaced Lovren but his introduction only highlighted the lack of options at Klopp’s disposal.
Other senior centre-backs Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are expected to miss this weekend’s match against Brighton but Klopp hopes to have them fit for Crystal Palace on January 19.
Virgil van Dijk was absent for the loss against Wolves with a minor issue, leaving Klopp to play midfielder Fabinho as part of a makeshift defence.
When asked how long Lovren would be out for, Klopp responded: “I don’t know in this moment.
On whether Liverpool could dip into the transfer market with their mounting injury list, Klopp said: “Can you use the transfer market to make a solution for two weeks? It’s really difficult.
“I don’t know exactly with Dejan, obviously it’s a muscle, out of the blue.
“I asked around, but he wasn’t in the best mood at that moment.
“We cannot use him and him and him and Dejan was on the edge. It was just the wrong moment.
“I don’t see a solution for two weeks, unless the rules will completely change.”
