Hindu Panelist On TV Debate About Zomato Row Shockingly Covers Eyes On Seeing Muslim Anchor

Just when you thought you had enough religious bigotry polluting the air, along comes another more disgusting display of discrimination.

It’s hardly been a few days since a man named Amit Shukla kicked up a storm after asking Zomato to cancel his order because the rider was Muslim and things are going from bad to worse.

A Hindu panelist was invited to give his thoughts on the Zomato issue but what he ended up doing has added another twist to this forgettable controversy.

According to Sandeep Chaudhary, an anchor on the News24 television channel, Ajay Gautam, a panellist for a debate, covered his eyes and refused to look directly at another anchor named Saud Mohammad Khalid.

Ajay Gautam, founder of a Hindu right-wing organisation ‘Hum Hindu’ according to reports,  the website of his organisation states that its sole objective is ‘complete Swaraj, absolute Hindu Rashtra’.

Chaudhary was ending the debate he was moderating and handing over to Khalid when Gautam covered his eyes.

Media Entrepreneur Anurradha Prasad wrote on Twitter saying, ‘at the newsroom of @news24tvchannel are in shock at the inappropriate & condemnable behaviour of Mr Ajay Gautam . Ethics of journalism do not allow to give platform to such devisive voices & gestures.’

According to reports, the TV channel has decided not to invite Gautam to its studio here on.

Zomato ended up as the subject of a massive debate online after Jabalpur-based Amit Shukla cancelled an order from the food aggregator because the delivery boy was “non-Hindu”.

But Zomato refused to change the delivery executive. Instead, tweeted: “Food doesn’t have a religion. It is a religion.”

Faiyaz the delivery guy who was at the centre of all the controversy, was unimpressed by all the storm that was kicked up.

“This hurts me, but what can I do… we are poor people who are meant to put up with things like these,” PTI quoted him as saying.

Narrating the sequence of events Faiyaz told TOI that he called Shukla to know his exact location when the latter told him sternly that the order stands cancelled.

Zomato is still in the spotlight for an entirely different reason now,  several people on social media started complaining about how the company is fine if some customers want specifically Halal meat.

The company, in its defence, said that the Halal tag on the Zomato app is a result of restaurants seeking that distinction. This resulted in some users slamming Zomato and leaving one-star reviews for it on Google Play Store and App store.
