Indian Railways To Provide Free Video Streaming Service For Entertainment On The Go To Passengers

Waiting for delayed trains at railway stations wouldn’t remain a mundane task anymore. Reports suggest that the Indian Railways is planning to make journey of the passengers more entertaining by offering a free video streaming solution.

Passengers can stream high quality videos like movies, TV series and a lot more on smartphones and other devices without incurring any additional charges.

The services can be availed at railway platforms and even in the trains.

The video on-demand project in currently in a nascent stage and a wider roll out can be expected soon.

“Passengers will love this! Soon, stream your favourite movies, shows and music on trains and stations”, Indian government’s Minister of Railways and Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal tweeted recently. 

RailTel, a mini ratna, will helm the upcoming free content streaming service. It also provides free wifi services at railway stations.

“RailTel will provide preloaded multilingual content; movies, music videos, general entertainment including TV serials and devotional programmes, lifestyle-related etc in moving trains,” a railway official told the Financial Express. 

“In case of trains, to ensure buffer-free services, media servers will be placed. Passengers will be able to enjoy high-quality buffer-free streaming across personal devices and the content will be periodically refreshed,” he added.

Devotional programmes will also be a part of video streaming services.

A report by The Times of India says the Railways is now providing free wifi service at 2,000 stations.

Puneet Chawla, the CMD of RailTel, in an official statement said Rana Pratap Nagar railway station of Ajmer division in Rajasthan became the 2000th station in the country to have free internet facility,

“Our team is working round the clock and with each passing day execution pace is only increasing. Yesterday we made 74 stations live and while we speak some more stations are being made live with free wifi which is an incredible feat for us,” he said in an official statement.
