1. The word “Pizza” was first documented around 997 AD in Gaeta, Italy. The name then started to spread to different parts of central and southern Italy.

2. The earliest kind of pizza came from the ancient Greeks not from Italy or USA. They used to bake flat and round large breads, topped with them exotic vegetables, potatoes, spices and olive oil.

3. The first commercial pizza originated in Italy in 18th Century. Made specially for poor people, this pizza didn’t have any kind of topping. They made just a plain, flat and round bread.

4. Italian Queen Margherita tasted the pizza for the first time in 1889, when she was travelling across her Kingdom. The taste of pizza appealed her so much that every time she visited her subjects, she ate the bread. As we all know, pizza was considered as a peasants’ food, and it was not usual on queen dining which created dismay in Court Circle.

5. It was after World War II that America, England, France and Spain started to know pizza properly. A lot of Europeans and American soldiers got to taste pizza during occupation of Italian cities.
